Can Dentistry Reverse The Ageing Process

Everyone wants to age gracefully. Medical science constantly strives to discover the magic bullet to achieve this goal. Could the answer be staring us in the face, literally?

What if I told you that the key to health and longevity is all about eating the right foods, breathing well, sleeping well, smiling and being grateful for the loved ones around you.

Let’s look at the first four aspects of this; eating, breathing, sleeping, and smiling. To eat well, you need a strong set of teeth. Chewing is the 1st stage of digestion. The breakdown of carbohydrates is initiated by releasing salivary amylase from the parotid salivary gland that resides in your cheeks next to your upper molars. If you have missing teeth or pain in your jaw joints on chewing, you will likely swallow your food prematurely, reducing the body’s ability to break down the food to produce energy for the body. At Dental Wellness, we strive to work with you to rebuild your teeth so they function as nature intended. Our restorations are 100% metal-free, from the Bis-GMA free white resins, ceramic single visit inlays and crowns to the European manufactured Zirconia dental implants.

Breathing is something we all take for granted, but if you spend your life using the wrong technique, you will be compromising achieving optimal health.

Your nose is for breathing, and your mouth is for eating

If you mouth breath throughout the day and night, you begin to over breath. As a result, excess CO2 is expelled, and your body cries out for Oxygen which can lead to the risk of anxiety, panic attacks, high blood pressure and poor energy. Your body needs adequate CO2 levels to enable your red cells to release Oxygen to every cell in your body. The dental side effect of this can be identified with a dry mouth, cracked lips, and a higher risk of gum disease, which increases your risk of heart disease, stroke, arthritis, diabetes, and nearly every chronic inflammatory disease we struggle with today.

At Dental Wellness, your oral health is a primary concern, and addressing gum disease and dental infections will reduce your risk of systemic whole-body inflammation. In addition, by introducing simple ways to optimise your breathing through the day and night, you can positively influence the health of your mouth and the health of the whole body.

Did you know that we all sleep in a series of roughly 90-minute sleep cycles? Ideally, we start with shallow sleep, where the body’s active functions calm before drifting into a deep sleep where the brain takes over and paralyses the body. At the same time, recovery and detoxification occur.

Suppose you snore or are woken regularly by a snorer. In that case, you cannot reach this restful deep sleep and are constantly thrown back into the active flight or fight mode resulting in adrenal stress, fatigue on waking and foggy brain throughout the day.

At Dental Wellness, we often see these patients struggling with fatigue, toxicity and chemical sensitivity. Assessing their airway and breathing patterns and the level of inflammation, infection and toxicity in their mouths can lead us to a successful resolution of all of these issues, enabling a solid night sleep allowing the body to recover, heal and be ready to take on the day. We treat patients who have already been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea to help support and improve their airways during sleep.

Isn’t it time you thought differently about your dental health?

When you can eat well, breathe effectively, sleep deeply and smile with confidence, you are a long way towards reversing your ageing process.

Keep Smiling,
It’s good for You!
