An Oral Probiotic That Naturally Lives In A Healthy Mouth And Throat

Ever wondered why your mouth is considered the gateway to your body’s health? The key role plays our oral microbiome, which often represents what’s happening in other body systems. The oral microbiome consists of billions of microorganisms that live in the mouth and is, after the gut, the second largest microbial community in your body.

Most of these microorganisms are bacteria, while the rest consist of yeast, viruses and fungi. It is estimated that there are around 600 different bacterial species in the oral cavity, living on the teeth, tongue and even pockets between your teeth and gum.

As the oral microbiome plays an essential role in digestion, metabolism, blood pressure regulation and maintenance of the teeth structure, it is vital to learn how to apply correct oral hygiene, eat a healthy diet, and take effective supplements or probiotics.

If there is an imbalance in the oral microbiome, harmful bacteria can survive and grow. This condition is called oral microbiome dysbiosis and can cause the most common oral diseases like dental decay and periodontal disease (infection and inflammation of the gums and bone surrounding and supporting teeth).

Advanced periodontal disease has been associated with a number of health conditions, including Cardiovascular disease, Diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Cancer and Autoimmune conditions.

Researchers have explored the potential of probiotics to restore the good bacteria in the mouth. Professor Emeritus John Tagg discovered specific strains of friendly bacteria that can crowd out harmful bacteria. This beneficial bacteria (Streptococcus salivarius) resides in healthy people’s mouths and indicates healthy immune function and natural resistance to harmful bacteria.

This discovery led to the development of BLIS probiotics (BLIS K12 and BLIS M18). These advanced probiotics have a double function; one is to crowd out the bad stuff, and the second is to inhibit them from returning. BLIS K12 and BLIS M18 are safety-tested and commercially used now for more than 15 years.

Also worth mentioning are three independent studies released by Blis Technologies Ltd. providing evidence that the BLIS K12 strain may reduce the frequency and length of respiratory illness.

We encourage this probiotic, especially if cavities and sore throats are prevalent. For more information, call Dental Wellness, and our staff will be happy to assist you.
