Helping snoring and sleep apnoea

A restful night’s sleep is important to maintaining good physical and mental health. After all, it’s hard to be productive when you’re tired. A lack of makes it difficult to think clearly, make sound decisions and react quickly. In fact, sleep loss and sleep disorders can have an extremely negative impact on both the individual and society as a whole.

While snoring is disturbing to others, it’s also a sign that the snorer is not breathing normally while sleeping. In turn, this may indicate the presence of something more serious than simply an annoying noise: they may be suffering from sleep apnoea.

Sleep Apnoea is a disorder that is characterised as a series of episodes where a person stops breathing for 10 seconds or longer during sleep. Snoring is a major indicator but not all symptoms are so obvious or audible.

At dental wellness, we can help identify this issue as we are actually looking in the mouth for tell tale signs of sleep breathing issues. We will arrange sleep studies with your General Practitioner and work with you and your GP to devise a solution depending on the severity of the disorder. Treatment options may include behavioural changes such as altering sleep position, losing weight, using a CPAP system or a dental appliance that repositions the jaw and tongue to improve airflow.

The team at dental wellness has extensive experience in the treatment of sleep apnoea and sleep breathing disorders.
