The third episode of the Oral FITNESS Bootcamp – T for Toxicity

The pandemic has certainly created a fear of exposure to toxins in this world. We do have an amazing body defence system often initiated in the oral and nasal mucosa. The oral microbiome is a happy family of bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses. As dentists, we are very much aware of this. The pH of this saliva has a big influence on the balance. 6.8 -7 neutral pH is ideal at rest but this pH changes all the time when stimulated by food and drink. If you are using lemon water or apple cider vinegar first thing on waking, BEWARE! Although your digestion will work better there are parts of the mouth on the surface of teeth and under the gum, the area will stay extremely acidic for some hours. Do not brush your teeth for 40 minutes after using these products and bathe your mouth with bicarbonate of soda solution for 30 seconds straight after using.

Oral FITNESS Scorecard-2

The other potential toxins in your mouth are mercury from your silver amalgam and other metal combinations. Titanium implants are a metal that has been shown to corrode, releasing metal ions creating autoimmune issues and inflamed gums around the neck of the implant. Consider a zirconia bioceramic dental implant. Beautiful, white, strong and no metal charge reaction. Dental Wellness was the first practice in Austral-Asia to provide a total metal-free dental solution.

Tips for reducing toxins
1. Oil pulling every morning. This is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal but does not release mercury from any amalgams.
2. Wear your soft/hard splint to reduce grinding on any amalgams.
3. Epson salts baths to relax and promote deep sleep.
4. Try to sweat every day. Sauna is the optimal way to remove toxins but exercise is the next best thing.
5. Try cold showers for 3 minutes that stimulate Vagal tone and promote detox and also set you up for the day.

Keep Smiling,
It’s good for You!
