Is it safe to have amalgam fillings removed

Mould can have a long-lasting negative effect on the whole body. The first signs are noticed in your sleep quality and congestion in the nasopharyngeal area. When you can not breathe through your nose easily at night, you are more prone to mouth breathing. The side effects of mouth breathing can be clenching, headaches, neck pain, anxiety and poor deep sleep, waking throughout the night to visit the bathroom.

Mould is a type of fungus that is found nearly everywhere on Earth; there are more than 100,000 species. It is parasitic and lacks leaves, stems or roots. Up to 250,000 mould spores can fit on the head of a pin! Mould needs food, moisture and the right temperature to thrive. Mould spores can lie dormant for up to 15 years, then rejuvenate when moisture or water is reintroduced into its environment.

Here are some general tips to prevent or get rid of mould:

  • Let in lots of fresh air and sunlight.
  • Follow your nose: Musty smells often indicate a mould problem. Check for musty-smelling corners and damp areas. Mould is commonly found in foundations, walls and ductwork.
  • Check ceilings and walls for black, brown, green, orange or white discolouration. Black mould
growing inside a wall feeds off the drywall’s paper backing. Also, check for rotting wood, damaged drywall or crumbling plaster.

  • Check for sources of moisture, such as leaking pipes, basement wall cracks or poorly insulated walls, and repair them.
  • Place a dehumidifier in damp rooms.
  • Whenever you shower or bath, turn on the bathroom vent fan. Let it run for at least 15 minutes
afterwards. If your bathroom isn’t equipped with a vent fan but has a window, then likewise open the window during and after bathing.

  • Ensure that your home drain properly; gutters and downspouts should drain away from the structure.
Otherwise, the foundation will remain damp, which encourages mould growth in the basement.

  • Plant trees and shrubs at least five feet from your home’s foundation to prevent roots from channelling water to the foundation.
