If you are not happy about your smile, there are solutions to transform your smile with Aesthetic dentistry and the use of dental implants. But there are also other reasons your dentist would recommend a dental implant, like having a missing tooth, your denture doesn’t fit properly, or you have an infected dead tooth that can’t be saved.
The next question you need to ask yourself is what type of implant do you want in your body? Titanium dental implants have been the traditional option. Unfortunately, there is a real risk that the metal oxidizes and corrodes over time, releasing metal ions into your blood system. If you already have multiple metals in your mouth, there is a chance that the ‘battery effect’ will accelerate this process.
Then there is a far more modern option made of 100% ceramic Zirconia. Whilst titanium implants have been used since the sixties, which is precisely the time where people used the so-called cassette tape to listen to music. So if I keep to the analogy with the electronic device, Zirconia implants are only as old as the Apple Mac (1985). Since then, ceramic implants have improved their design significantly over the years to call them now the dental implant “Mac Book Pro”.
